Dolly Parton on American Idol

Emily, your prenatal vitamin blogger here.

This week’s theme for American Idol is country. And not just any country music – Dolly Parton country music. This week should work well for Kristy Lee Cook.

dolly_parton_in_nashville_april_2005.jpgDolly Parton has 25 number-one singles. She was one of 12 children in a very poor rural family. This lady is amazing. She really came from nothing and made a life for herself. I watched a special on Dollywood one time and just listening to her talk made me admire her. She’s pretty amazing. And Dollywood looks like a lot of fun. Dolly Parton was on the Porter Wagoner show for 7 years. She wrote the hit “I Will Always Love You” for Porter when she left his show. I think that’s sweeter than if it had just been a love song to a husband or something.

I’m interested to see what the kids come up with for this week’s show. What will David Cook sing? A rock version of 9-to-5?

Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford call it quits

carrie_chace.jpg

Carrie Underwood, winner of American Idol season 4, and Chace Crawford, “Gossip Girl” actor, have broken up after 8 months of dating. They started dating in July and went public with the relationship in October. They spent the holiday season with each other and their families.

Rumors swirled that Chace Crawford and his friend JC Chasez were an item. Chasez has set the record straight stating “For the record, we’re both straight. We’re not dating.”

Carly Smithson – I’m not pregnant

Well people, you’ve heard it from the horse’s mouth. She’s not pregnant. She says that she was preoccupied when she performed though because of all the Spanx she had on. I wouldn’t think that Spanx and singing go together.

Is Carly Smithson pregnant?

It seems like this is the question that everyone wants answered. Is Carly Smithson pregnant? Well, she’s married. She’s an adult. It’s no big deal if she is. Anywho … I don’t know if she is or not. I hear that she puked before she performed last night. Maybe she ate some bad sushi? Here’s a screencap from last night’s performance. You be the judge.

If she is pregnant, she should take these great prenatal vitamins.

Josiah Leming Record Deal

 Josiah

I haven’t found anything to back this up on Josiah Leming’s Myspace or any source that I would exactly call credible, but … it appears that Josiah has landed a deal with Warner Bros. records.

Rolling Stone is also reporting the deal.

Amanda Overmyer’s American Idol Run is Over

Last night’s eliminated contestant was no real shock. One of the bottom 3 contestants, however, was a shock. The bottom three of the top 11 were Amanda Overmyer, Kristy Lee Cook, and Carly Smithson. The first of the three to be sent back to safety was Carly. She honestly looked shocked that she wasn’t eliminated. I didn’t make a prediction yesterday, but I was not shocked by Amanda’s departure. I was ready to see her go.

Kellie Pickler Performs “Red High Heels” on American Idol Elimination Night

Kellie Pickler was the star performer last night. I thought she did a great job. I don’t know why Ryan has to keep poking fun at her boob job though. Last night was not the first time he’s made mention of the “many ways she has grown since her time on American Idol” with this weird little smirk on his face. Is he obsessed with her boobs? They look good, but give the girl a break. She, of course, sang “Red High Heels” and she even cozied up to Simon to sing to him. I thought it was a great performance. I really like her hair short.

American Idol Sings The Beatles

So last night was again the Beatles. Don’t get me wrong. I love the Beatles, but I didn’t need to hear the Idols massacre any more of their songs.

01 Amanda Overmyer “Back In The USSR”
I loved her comment about how she would “tease it up really high and throw some black eyeliner on it” That’s totally her. It was really loud, high eneergy. It didn’t work for me. The crowd seemed to like it. Simon said it was boring. Whatever. She looks like she’s having more fun now than she did a couple weeks ago.

02 Kristy Lee Cook “You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away”
This was the best I’ve heard from her in a long time. I thought it was a great song choice for her. It showcased her lower range with really strong vocals. The ending note was great. Simon had to be a turd with his “musical wallpaper” comment. I think Simon was PMSing. And just as an aside, I do believe that was a picture of her boyfriend with her dog in her photo album.

03 David Archuleta “The Long and Winding Road”
I think David is great. He hit some really low notes in this song and they sounded really good. He does this weird lip-licking thing when he sings, though. He’s got such a pure voice (I thought this while he sang, before Paula made the same comment). Simon said it was amazing.

04 Michael Johns “A Day In The Life”
Uggh. He started OK, but hit some bad notes. The judges totally ragged on him. I didn’t like it. I haven’t really liked anything he’s done though.

05 Brooke White “Here Comes The Sun”
I think she was having a great time with this song. She was dancing around. She hit one really high note that sounded great. The judges weren’t complimentary.

06 David Cook “Daytripper”
My FAVORITE of the night. This was great, I thought. I had to rewind and listen again. I was impressed. He has the bedroom eyes look down pat. :) I liked the voice box thing. He is totally in his element. I loved how he was winking at the girls while Simon was giving his criticism.

07 Carly Smithson “Blackbird”
She looked so pretty last night. Seeing her tattoo kinda ruined it for me though. She has very pretty eyes. It was a good performance. Judges said it was controlled and emotive. Simon hated it.

08 Jason Castro “Michelle”
I think he sings well in French. I liked his hand gesture. He was having lots of fun. The music just made me want to sway. Simon said “your face sold that.” Simon thinks he’s “charming, not obnoxious.”

09 Syesh Mercado “Yesterday”
Her dress was beautiful. I thought the performance was pitchy. I didn’t like it.

10 Chikieze Eze “I’ve Just Seen A Face”
It had an interesting country vibe. I thought it worked. It got much better as it progressed. Simon said that it wasn’t a song to be proud of and thought it was gimmicky.

11 Ramiele Malubay “I Shoulda Known Better”
She tried to make it up-tempo. (I complained about this in the past) I don’t know what the hell she was wearing. I like her, but only with my eyes closed. There’s something I don’t like about the way she performs.

Have I told you lately that I really love these hair and skin vitamins and these are some great prenatal vitamins?

Jason Castro Singing Praise Songs

I’m not sure where this came from, but I ran across it yesterday. This is a great clip of Jason Castro singing a praise and worship song. This kid has had an amazing life. He dated some MTV star and was on her show, he’s obviously sung in front of crowds before (i.e. this clip) and now he’s on American Idol. This kid’s got it together.

Minnie Driver Mom-to-be

Minnie Driver announced her pregnancy on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week.

Minnie Driver

She has yet to revel who the father is. I don’t even know who she’s dating. If anyone at all.

Driver is apparently suffering from morning sickness.

“I don’t know why they call it morning sickness,” she said. “I am sick morning, noon and night, but it’s a fair trade-off.”

It must be spring time. Or maybe our movie stars are just getting older. Seems like everyone is settling down and nesting. Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, Jamie Lynn Spears, Minnie Driver, Angelina Jolie (2nd time in 4 years, with twins this time), Lisa Marie Presley, Giada DeLaurentiis, Tori Spelling (twice in 4 years). Sheesh. I hope all of these women know to take a good prenatal vitamin.

Halle Berry Has a Baby

 Halle Berry

Halle Berry, 41, and her boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, 32, welcomed a baby girl on Sunday morning.

People Magazine

It is reported that her baby is named Clara Stella Berry-Aubry. That’s too many 2-syllable words in a row. Turns out the baby’s name is Nahla Ariela Aubry. Much better. I think… Nahla? Like in the Lion King? Sheesh.

She said that she loved being pregnant and wanted to stay pregnant forever. No morning sickness for her I guess.

Adios David Hernandez

It’s so hard to not start this post with “I was right!” So I guess I’ll just do it. :) I was right. David Hernandez was the one to go last night.

Bottom 3: Syesha, Kristy Lee, and David Hernandez.

Top 12 Bottom 3

I wasn’t surprised by the bottom 3. I’m glad that Kristy Lee Cook has a chance to come back again. She looked so pretty last night. I really loved her hair.

Elimination Top 12

Katherine McPhee did a great job last night. She’s kinda fallen off the radar except for her wedding pictures. I bought her album. I don’t even listen to it. That’s not a good sign for her.

American Idol Top 12 Performances

Emily, your prenatal vitamins and now hair and skin vitamins blogger.

Here’s a basic rundown of last night’s performances and my opinion on them all.

Syesha–”Got to Get You Into My Life” She’s good. Not great. I don’t like her as much as I did to start.

Chikezie–”She’s a Woman” His voice is great. He sings well and picks good songs. I am just not drawn to him. What’s the deal? He’s like dry toast to me.

Ramiele Malubay–”In My Life” boooring. She’s talented, but oh my gosh. Pick up the tempo. Wake us up, don’t put us to sleep.

Jason Castro–”If I Fell” Man this kid can sing. he’s so different from the other contestants too. He’s got the little girl vote in the bag. So sweet and tender. I loved it.

Carly Smithson–”Come Together” whew! That was ah-ma-zing! What a great voice and a wonderful performance to accompany it. I was impressed. I take back half of the bad things I’ve said about her based on that one performance. You go, girl.

David Cook–”Eleanor Rigby” Rocker through and through. He did a great job. I like him more and more every week.

Brooke White–”Let It Be” FAVORITE PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT. This girl has got talent. She’s so sweet and subtle and amazing. She sings beautifully and doesn’t ever force it. She plays the piano and the guitar. She’s a very very sweet and gentle person and deserves to stay in this competition.

David Hernandez–”I Saw Her Standing There” This was his worst performance to date. He over did it for sure. I like him, but he’s losing me.

Amanda Overmyer–”You Can’t Do That” I liked this performance for her. I thought the song suited her voice well. She just doesn’t look like she wants to be there anymore.

Michael Johns–”Across the Universe” I liked it. Simple, smooth. It worked for him. I’m not wowed by anything he’s done yet, though.

Kristy Lee Cook–”8 Days A Week” Oh my. It was like someone hit the fast forward button on her last night. It was Alvin and the Chipmunk-esque. Way too fast, way too country. She sings well. My peanut gallery last night said “Just send her to Nashville already”

David Archuleta–”We Can Work It Out” This was the first hesitation or mistake we’ve seen from the young pro so far. I liked it. It proved that he’s as human as the rest of us. He forgot some words. Hey, it happens to the best of ‘em. His vocals were still amazing. I love him.

Going home tonight: my guess is David Hernandez
